The Townsend Barrel Cactus produces large, showy flowers that can be up to 3 inches in diameter. The flowers are usually yellow or red and bloom in the spring or early summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and hummingbirds. After the flowers fade, the cactus produces edible fruit that is covered in small spines. The fruit is sweet and can be eaten raw or cooked, although it is important to remove the spines before consuming.
Will benefit from a high potassium NPK fertilizer only in the summer months.
