Difficulty: Intermediate.

Light: Bright light, including some direct sun. Colour fades fast in dim rooms.

Care: Keep evenly moist in summer; let the top inch dry in winter. Crotons drop leaves when stressed by drafts or dry soil. Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced plant food, and repot one size up when roots crowd the pot.

Size: 2 to 4 feet tall indoors over time.

Toxicity: Toxic if eaten — keep out of reach of pets and small children, and wash your hands after handling cut leaves or sap.
